Philip Tharel
LPC Associate, Supervised by Dena Roberts, PhD, LPC-S
Philip is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. He received a BA in English at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, followed by a career in construction management in Nashville, NYC and Austin. He completed a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest.
Philip looks to understand each client as a whole person, in their own terms. He has a relational, conversational style that is grounded in the principles of Person-centered Therapy. A focus of this form of therapy is to help clients understand and accept who they are, and to connect more congruently with others. Philip engages in the process of exploration and discovery with each client - to look together at what is and has been, to draw on sources of strength and meaning, to change in ways that feel important and right.
He works with clients navigating life transitions, relationships, challenges related to mental and emotional health, experiences of trauma, grief and loss, explorations of identity and personal growth, and other issues. He recognizes that the things we experience are often interconnected and don’t exist in a vacuum, and finds it helpful to approach specific areas of concern with an awareness of the broader context.
Philip likes a combination of activity and stillness, and values time with friends and loved ones. He enjoys reading, playing and writing music, and being in nature (especially near water or a campfire). On weekends he hopes for a good coffee and pastry.
Philip is currently accepting new clients.
