Katie Richards
Graduate Student Intern
Katie is a Graduate Student Intern pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Seminary of the Southwest. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from The University of Texas at Austin and began her career as an elementary school teacher before spending several years as a stay-at-home mom to her three children. During that time, Katie discovered a growing passion for counseling, where her interest in the human brain, attachment, and the healing power of positive relationships could come together in meaningful ways.
Katie enjoys working with clients across the lifespan, including children, adolescents, and adults. She has a special interest in supporting individuals and families through major life transitions or disruptions, including separation and divorce, challenges of parenthood, and relational difficulties within dating relationships, marriage, and parent-child dynamics. Her hope is to help clients experience greater understanding, connection, and resilience as they navigate seasons of change.
Katie takes a reflective, attachment-based approach grounded in person-centered therapy and rooted in the belief that people are inherently wired for connection, growth, and restoration. She resonates with Ann Patchett’s words: “Sometimes the circumstances at hand force us to be braver than we actually are, and so we knock on doors and ask for assistance.” Katie recognizes that seeking support can feel deeply vulnerable and strives to create a warm, compassionate space where clients feel seen, safe, and supported. Through a relational and conversational approach, she works alongside clients to foster deeper self-awareness, process emotions and experiences with greater understanding, and cultivate healthier, more meaningful relationships with themselves and others.
Outside of the counseling room, Katie finds balance through meaningful time with friends and family, quiet moments in nature, and staying active outdoors. She enjoys the endorphin boost of a good workout, cold plunges, traveling to new places, sharing laughter around a table with the people she loves, and ending the day with a good movie or book.
Katie is currently accepting new clients.
